Synopsis |
An Indian Muslim family is caught in the crosswinds of change following India’s Partition in 1947. With their livelihood and home now under threat, the Mirzas face a series of new challenges and stark choices. Can they adapt, or should they flee to Pakistan? The sensitive subject matter made production a drama in itself but the film earned a Palme D’Or nomination and is considered a pioneering landmark of Hindi-language parallel (arthouse) cinema. |
