Synopsis
Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor star as orphaned brothers whose love lives become entangled by shocking twists of fate. But the drama didn’t end on screen. Director Chopra based the plot on the real-life affair between Bachchan and screen siren Rekha that scandalized India a year earlier. At Bachchan’s suggestion, Rekha would play his lover and Jaya Bhaduri, his real-life wife at the time, played his wife. More scandal ensued, hurting Silsila’s box office, but over time it gained cult classic status and remained a favorite of Chopra.
