MAMICannes
The obsession with fairer skin provides the spark for actor-director Akshay Singh’s poignant black comedy. When a dead body is found hanging in their beauty parlour, in the holy city of Banaras no less, sisters Pinky and Bulbul can only watch in horror as their business is ruined and their secrets revealed. With two oddball inspectors on the case, the tension ratchets way up as we’re left to ask, is beauty really only skin deep?
DIRECTOR
Famed for his acting and writing abilities, Akshay Singh has been making huge waves in the Hindi film industry, starring in hit films like ‘Vikalp’, 'Ghayal Once Again’, and ‘Chitkabrey’. After a successful start writing and acting in small theatre plays and a few well-known television shows, Singh shifted his focus towards feature films, co-writing the hit comedy ‘Baat Bann Gayi’ with Shuja Ali. In his short time in the industry, Akshay has also founded the production company Akshikha Entertainment, with the goal to tell thought-provoking stories through entertaining narrative. This goal was achieved in the company’s first feature film and Singh’s directorial debut, ‘Pinky Beauty Parlour’ which Akshay will be presenting at this year’s IFFM.
