Chauthi Koot (The Fourth Direction)
Punjabi with English subtitles
Based on a series of short stories from Indian author, Waryam Singh Sadhu, Chauthi Koot is an atmospheric drama set during the Sikh separatist movement of the 1980s. When a farmer refuses to put down his dog, he sets off a small-scale drama, while Indira Gandhi’s army and the Sikhs clash in the background. With a handsome visual style, director Gurvinder Singh evokes the fear, violence and creeping paranoia of the time.
