Set in rural Rajasthan, Saankal depicts the Mehar tradition of forced marriage. So as to ensure the purity of Mehar blood for future generations, older women are forced to marry adolescent or preteen boys. Told through the perspective of one such mismatched couple, Saankal reflects upon the personal and societal ramifications of ancient traditions in contemporary society.
