Message From The Minister For Creative Industries

The excitement of IFFM is back, bringing us the latest in cinema from India and the greater subcontinent.

Celebrating diversity through cinema, IFFM attracts more than 35,000 people annually, making it the largest festival of Indian film culture in the Southern Hemisphere.

Film is a powerful medium. It opens us up to new perspectives, helps us reflect on the past and imagine the future. Importantly, at a time when we can’t travel abroad, our screens connect us to stories, cultures and places beyond our borders.

This year’s program will not only stretch across a range of COVIDSafe venues in Melbourne, the hybrid festival can be enjoyed at home with a free online program that will be accessible to film lovers right across the globe.

Victoria’s screen industry plays an important role in our economy and in cementing our reputation as the creative state. Through VICSCREEN, Victoria’s Screen Industry Strategy 2021-2025, the Victorian Government is working to strengthen the sector at all levels.

We’re proud to support the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne as one of the fantastic, must-see events on our screen calendar.

Congratulations to the festival team and participating filmmakers on this dynamic program. And to film lovers, whether you’re joining in online or in person, I know you’ll enjoy all that IFFM 2021 has to offer.

The Hon. Danny Pearson MP
Minister for Creative Industries
