Anurag Kashyap is one of the most trailblazing, genre-defying filmmakers in India today. He has paved the way for modern new wave Hindi cinema with his bold, gritty and unapologetic style that put Indian cinema on the world map. Films like Black Friday (2004), Dev.D (2009), Gulaal (2009) That Girl in Yellow Boots (2011), Gangs of Wasseypur (2012) among many others have changed the landscape of Indian cinema as we knew it. A consistent Cannes favourite in recent years, the Government of France also awarded him the prestigious Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of the Arts and Letters) in 2013. In 2022, he directed a time-bending film Dobaaraa which will be screened as the Opening Night film for the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2022.
