At IFFM2024, we showcased the works of over 20 incredible female filmmakers.
On Closing Night, we brought the much-anticipated film Girls Will Be Girls to its Australian premiere, with lead cast Preeti Panigrahi joining us for an engaging Q&A session. Preeti earned the prestigious Special Jury Award for Acting at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival for this role. Being brave and outspoken on gender issues, she shared a meaningful discussion with the audience during the post-screening Q&A.
Directed by Shuchi Talati, the film follows the journey of sixteen-year-old Mira in a strict boarding school nestled in the Himalayas, whose sexy, rebellious coming of age is disrupted by her young mother who never got to come of age herself.
Girls Will Be Girls won the World Cinema Dramatic (Audience) award at 2024 Sundance Film Festival, and lead actress Preeti Panigrahi, received the Special Jury Award for Acting.
